Omega Coconut Desiccated: finely shredded dried coconut for macaroons, laddoos, curries and chutneys. Single 1 kg pack.
Desiccated coconut is the dried, finely shredded white flesh of the coconut, the fruit of a palm originally native to Southeast Asia and the Pacific and now found throughout coastal tropical regions. It is unsweetened and has a mild, sweet coconut flavour. Bakers use it in macaroons, lamingtons, coconut cakes, granola and cookie dough, and to roll laddoos, barfi and truffles. In savoury cooking it can be toasted and ground into curry pastes and chutneys, or rehydrated in warm water or milk where fresh grated coconut is called for. Toast it in a dry pan, stirring, until golden. Because of its natural oil content, keep it sealed in a cool place or the fridge, as it can turn rancid in heat.
