Omega Flax Seed: brown flax seeds for porridge, smoothies, bread and vegan baking. Single 250 g pack.
Flax, also called linseed, comes from Linum usitatissimum, a plant grown as both a food and fibre crop in temperate regions. The small, glossy brown seeds have a mild, nutty flavour. Many people grind them just before use and sprinkle the meal over porridge, yoghurt, smoothies and salads. Ground flax mixed with water makes a gel that replaces eggs in vegan muffins and pancakes, and whole seeds add texture to breads and crackers. Toast whole seeds lightly for extra flavour. This 250 g pack suits home use. Because the oil in flax goes stale quickly once ground, grind small amounts as needed and keep the whole seeds sealed and cool. Bakers also scatter whole flax over loaves before baking for a crunchy crust.
